Paul started playing drums at a very early age. His father played and he followed in his footsteps. As soon as he was tall enough to sit on the drum throne and reach the pedals, he started playing a full kit. He grew up on classic rock, funk and blues. In the 80's he began playing in bands and stretching his musical genres. He loves rock, metal, jazz and pop rock music. He is very much a "feel" drummer, with technical capabilities. Some of his influences are John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Neil Peart (Rush), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Ian Paice (Deep Purple), Aynsley Dunbar (Journey, Starship, Whitesnake) Mickey Curry (Bryan Adams, The Cult), Dennis Elliott (Foreigner), as well as jazz greats, Buddy Rich, Lenny White, Steve Gadd, and Larnell Lewis to name a few. Paul believes it is very important while playing in a live setting to play for the song, the way it was originally intended, and to always watch and listen to the rest of the band while you are playing so you can be ready for changes and improvisation. The job of the drummer is to lay down a solid groove for the rest of the band to build upon. His love for music and playing live has lead him through many genres in multiple bands in the last 30 years in the Richmond, Va. area, and currently has him playing several genres in the dance/pop/country powerhouse that is Ladysmyth.
